How To Plan For A Funeral Service

    By Ramon Silva

Death is one of the harsh realities of our existence that we are least prepared for. Paying respects to the dead is a centuries old practice that has gradually changed to suit the times. Conventionally, a funeral service was carried out in church and the departed was bid farewell with readings from scriptures as well as a eulogy. But, this trend is changing today, with a lot of people wishing to organise a more personal funeral service for their loved one.

Preparing for a funeral could be a very painful and tough task, particularly immediately after the death of a relative or a friend. A general myth that a service is a legal requirement is far from truth as no law makes it mandatory to conduct a funeral service.

Secondly, many people hold the belief that a service has to be organized in a church, which is also a misconception. It is to be noted that though conventionally such services were held in a church, with the trend of personalizing, many funeral services are being conducted within the premises of the departed.

Thirdly, such services do not mandate the presence of either the pastor or the casket and can be easily held without either.

With the increase in choice for personal funeral services, it is crucial to take the deceased into consideration while preparing for it. Music, must be such that it is gentle, soothing and from the personal favourites of the deceased. You can either hire a live music band or decide to play music records.

There is also an increasing trend of displaying the personal things of the departed to display his or her true nature to the entire world. Another crucial factor in any funeral service is an address, in the form of a recital, a song or even a speech describing the deceased.

Lastly, it is advisable to give the guests gathered at the service some kind of a memento that will make them remember the deceased forever.
