Inducing Lucid Dreams - How Is It Possible?

    By David Axel

When during sleep you are completely aware that you are dreaming and in some cases even have the power to control the images that you see in your dreams, you are said to be lucid dreaming.

Thus, from what we understand from the above, if you know that you are dreaming and moreover have the power to dream about whatever you want and manipulate it as you wish then the ability for inducing lucid dreaming might be stated to be one of the best special powers or abilities anyone can possess. More so because with the knowledge that you are dreaming with the aspect of control, you can actually go ahead and do whatever you feel like in your dreams without any restriction since you know that once you wake up it can never harm you in real life.

Can you think of these scenarios where you can do anything and everything and know that you will not get hurt in the process? When you come to think of it, it is truly amazing and thereby justifies the reason why people so desperately try in inducing lucid dreams in their lives. Induction of such dreaming intentionally can be achieved with regular practice in either of the various methods known to man.

The first and the foremost step towards inducing lucid dreams is to be able to recall dreams. Many people dream and then forget after they wake up. In this case, even if you have a lucid dream, chances are that you'll forget. Moreover dream recall with the help of a dream journal or an audio recorder develops awareness about dreams in general.

Secondly, Wake Initiated Lucid Dreams refers to when a person passes from the wakeful state to the realms of dreams with complete self awareness and knowledge and can control the dream imageries which he sees or experiences thereafter. Hence, WILD techniques to keep oneself awake during the hypnogenic state, which is the bordering time between wakefulness and sleep would be to count your breaths, chant slowly in your mind, visualize yourself ascending or descending a flight of stairs and counting the number of stairs, etc. Remember that your objective is to let your body rest and go to sleep but keeping your mind awake by focusing at the same time.

Thirdly, the MILD or Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams technique in inducing lucid dreaming involves continuously affirming your subconscious mind about remembering a particular object in your dream. In this way, when you actually see it in your dream your mind will note it down, in the process giving you the knowledge that you are dreaming.

Inducing Lucid dreams can also be done by a alternate sleeping-waking exercise. In this case, you should go to sleep in the usual time but only for a few hours. Set your alarm and get up in between a deep sleep phase and then occupy yourself with something for 45mins to an hour or so after which you go back to sleep again. In this way, your mind or your brain will not be completely sure whether you are asleep or not, suddenly when you get up from intense sleep. This will help in inducing lucid dreaming when you go back to sleep again.

Lastly, in today's time of advanced technology a discussion can never be complete without stating what solutions the technology has in store for you. In inducing lucid dreams, mention may be made of the binaural beats which essentially refers to input of two different and slightly offset sound vibrations in each year via headphones which goes to the brain and results in the synchronization between the two hemispheres. This binaural beats lead your brainwaves to reach the state which is conducive to lucid dreaming. Other technological stuff such as specialized lights or dreaming masks can be used. Whatever might be the technique you use in inducing lucid dreaming, be sure that you go on affirming your mind completely about remembering your dreams and being aware of them.
