Why Is It Favorable To Get A Funeral Service Director?

    By Jack Samuels

The passing away of a beloved can be a very stressful, traumatic, and costly affair. These emotions are usually caused by a sudden death. In sudden deaths, there is more hardship in coming to terms with the loved one's demise as those left behind hardly have time to prepare - emotion-wise and financially. Still, we must constantly keep in mind that death is an inevitable end we all have to go through.

For an individual who experiences the demise of a loved one, grief is a powerful emotion that threatens to overwhelm them. At this time of grief, a grief-stricken individual cannot make sound decisions. Nonetheless, the bereaved must deal with essential issues related to their loved one's demise. The funeral service preparation is one essential thing to look into. During this time of mourning, it may be better for the bereaved to engage the services of a funeral director.

The main function of a funeral director is to make all arrangements for the entire funeral up to the handling of the dead body at the cremation or burial.

There are four important duties of a funeral director, they are: (a) shifting of the body to the mortuary; (b) embalming and preparing the body for the ceremony; (c) preparing for the ceremonies for friends and family to pay their final respects to the departed and; (d) the last act of cremation or burial as per the customs of the family.

The responsibilities of a funeral director range from publishing obituaries in the print and electronic media to arranging for a vehicle to shift the deceased, besides other planning tasks like choosing the time and place for conducting the memorial service etc. Further, funeral directors have to make arrangements for flowers and have the decoration carried out for each service, make provisions for vehicles for the assembled people and clothe the body for the service after embalming it.

Other than these tasks, a funeral director also takes care of the essential paperwork that are a part of the formalities following a person's death. He helps in obtaining a proper death certificate for the deceased. He is also entrusted with other tasks like helping the family members with getting the insurance money and to take advantage of veterans' burial scheme. He also helps in transferring annuity and pension money, if any, of the deceased to the beneficiaries of the deceased and assists the family with estimates of the costs of the whole funeral proceedings.

Moreover, a funeral director has to liaise with a wide range of people so that he can do his tasks in a proper way. He must be able to communicate with physicians, florists, coffin makers and priests equally well.

Finally, the funeral directors should be considerate too and must try to provide some solace to the grieving family and try to bring them out of their sorrows over the death of a loved one. Though it is a critical aspect of the job, some funeral directors tend to ignore it as a peripheral responsibility.
